Oura launched its new smart ring, the Oura Ring 4, on Thursday, with prices starting at $349.

The company's rings track sleep, exercise, stress, heart health and other metrics to help users understand their bodies and make healthier choices. The Oura Ring 4 has a new sensor, a sleeker design, and up to eight days of battery life.

Oura said it developed a new “smart sensing” platform that uses algorithms and updated sensors to capture more accurate blood oxygen sensing, daytime and nighttime heart rate and breathing impairment readings.

The sensor in the Oura Ring 3 is raised and feels like a small bump, but the sensor in the Oura Ring 4 is flat. The company says this will make the inside of the ring smooth and more comfortable to wear.

The Oura Ring 4 is available in twelve sizes and six colors, including a new black finish. It will be available for pre-order on Thursday and will start shipping on October 15th.

In addition to the upfront fee, users also pay a membership fee of $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year. The first month is free. Customers can use flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts to pay for rings and memberships.

A new look for the app

The company also announced a new design for its app, now available to Oura members. Under the new layout, users' data will be organized into three tabs, namely “Today”, “Vital Signs” and “My Health”.

The Today tab will highlight relevant information based on the time of day, including shortcuts that allow people to quickly access information about sleep, activity, readiness, stress, heart rate, and menstrual cycle (if applicable) . Users can drill down into more details about their data in the Vital Signs tab and access long-term metrics such as sleep trends, cardiovascular age, sleep trends and stress recovery in the My Health tab.

Oura said the app will also be rolling out new features.

While exercising, members do not need to manually record their heart rate or the type of exercise completed. They can also view their activity and daily movements within their daytime stress data. Oura says this will help improve users' understanding of how their behaviors and habits affect their stress.

Oura has also updated its reproductive health products to include a feature called “Fertile Window,” which will help inform users of their chances of getting pregnant. The Fertile Window will provide the user with an estimate of days to conception, likelihood of conception, and day of detected ovulation. Oura says the feature will roll out in the coming months, but members can sign up for a waitlist to get early access.

Oura Labs is now available on Android devices, where users can test new features. This feature was previously only available on iPhone.
