The Kansas City Chiefs have opened a 21-day practice window for running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

The Chiefs trade was completed Wednesday. They will have 21 days to activate or deactivate Edwards-Helaire, who started the season on the reserve/non-football illness list.

In August, Edwards-Helaire revealed on social media and to reporters at training camp that he had been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder since December 2018.

“There were times when I would end up in the hospital, like I couldn't stop vomiting, and it was just, I (didn't) know (anything) that could almost stop it,” he told ESPN.

“Dehydration is really bad … but it's really just not there mentally,” he said, adding that alert teammates can notice, “Okay, Clyde's not laughing, he's not giggling, he's not who he is Own.

Edwards-Helaire, 25, did not reveal the cause of his post-traumatic stress disorder, citing “a self-defense situation” he experienced in college.

The Chiefs (4-0) are adjusting to the loss of running back Isaiah Pacheco, who had surgery last month on a fractured fibula and is expected to be sidelined until at least November.

Kareem Hunt rushed for 69 yards and running back Samaje Perine scored a touchdown as Kansas City defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 17-10 on Sunday.

The Chiefs selected Edwards-Helaire out of LSU in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In 48 games (32 starts) over four seasons, he rushed 441 times for 1,845 yards and 12 touchdowns. He added 765 receiving yards and seven scores.

Kansas City hosts the New Orleans Saints (2-2) on Monday night.
