After an engrossing first season filled with ’90s sonic callbacks, Showtime’s season 2 yellow jacket Thanks to a new trailer, Florence and the Machine cover No Doubt’s “Just a Girl,” and the film kicks off on the same wistful tone.
Season 1 of the series took viewers back to 1996, when a group of young football players survived a plane crash, the aftermath of which forced the characters to deal with a series of psychological misadventures. Considering when the story begins, the music of that era is paramount to the series. We’ve heard everything from Portishead’s “Glory Box” to Wreckx-n-Effect’s “Rump Shaker” in the series so far, and season 2 promises to maintain that same energy when jumping between timelines.
The ’90s portion of the series featured Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Sammi Hanratty, Liv Hewson, and Courtney Eaton playing younger versions of the characters, with Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, Lauren Ambrose , and Simone Kessel as their adult equivalents. All of the cast will return for season 2, with Elijah Wood joining as a detective.
Welch shares her joy at covering groundbreaking girl song in a twitter post, saying how she was “delighted to be selected for the team this year” – the show focuses on a football team. Yellowjackets’ official Twitter had the audacity to reply to Welch’s post “Break a leg!”
