The Dallas Cowboys have had the benefit of employing a franchise-altering No. 1 wide receiver for much of their history, most notably in the past with Michael Irvin and currently with CeeDee Lamb.

Another franchise WR1 from the past who wore the revered No. 88 was Dez Bryant, who owner Jerry Jones recently compared one of his rookies to.

Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan and spoke highly of rookie receiver Ryan Flournoy, saying “I’m anxious to see him make his first catch with the Dallas Cowboys, but he may be something special for us. On a personal basis, he’s got Dez Bryant stuff to him. Boy, is he an athlete. Glad to see him get this opportunity.”

Flournoy is a sixth-round pick out of Southeast Missouri State and had 118 catches for 1,823 yards in his two seasons with the Redhawks and is finally set to make his team debut in Week 5 when the Cowboys take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.

Flournoy shined in the preseason and got fans excited about his potential, and the 6’1″, 200-pound receiver will be making his debut since Brandin Cooks is out with a knee injury.

Cowboys receivers haven’t produced outside of Lamb thus far, as Cooks has disappointed with just nine catches for 91 yards and a touchdown, though Jalen Tolbert has progressed a bit and is off to a nice start with 13 catches for 160 yards and a touchdown.

There is plenty of room for Flournoy to provide a spark and add another element to this offense, and we’ll see if he can live up to Jerry Jones’ high praise.
