Singer Maynard James Keenan makes headlines, including right here result, in drag at Tool’s headlining performance of “Welcome to Rockville” in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Sunday. Having said that, Keenan told Messenger In a post-show interview, “I’ve been dragging since long before these clickbait fans didn’t have diapers… Technology and prosthetics are so crazy now, how they’ve come to be, and I’m just thinking about bringing the eyes back.
He continued, “That’s what it’s all about. I’m not a politician — nothing to do with Florida.”
While Keenan may not have made a political statement through his team, he did condemn the new law, saying: “I think it’s ridiculous to limit people’s access to anything. Good parenting allows you to teach your children How to be reasonable and reason and work things out and decide for themselves what the fuck they want to see or don’t want to see.”
Keenan has yet to hear from authorities if he did break the law. “Nobody enforces it,” he reasoned. “They’re just doing it and throwing it out there to solidify their base in an election year.”
When asked if he considered himself part of the drag community, Keenan replied: “I think so, yes. Sometimes, I’m a drag queen; I have been Drag queen I am very casual, so hardcore people will dismiss me as a tourist. “
As for his take on Welcome to Rockville, the rock legend quipped: “Honestly, I’m 59 years old. So (Sunday) night’s show looks more like (game of Thrones‘) Brienne of Tarth on her worst day. “
Keenan concludes, “Anyone who wants to express themselves in any fucking way, as long as they don’t directly hurt someone physically? Yeah, go for it. I’m all for you. If there’s any takeaway, it’s you. Don’t be afraid to be yourself.”
