Singer Tina Turner died at the age of 83 after a long illness, a statement posted on her official Facebook page Wednesday.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and boundless zest for life, she captivated millions of fans around the world and inspired rising stars,” the statement said.

“Today we bid farewell to a dear friend who bequeathed to us her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt sympathies go out to her family. Tina, we will miss you so much,” it continued.

Widely known as the queen of rock and roll, Turner’s career spanned more than 60 years and included iconic songs “Proud Mary” and “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”

In recent years, Turner’s health has been poor. She was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016 and underwent a kidney transplant in 2017.

In a separate statement to Sky News, a spokesman said Turner died “peacefully” at her home in Kusnacht, near Zurich, Switzerland.

“With her, the world has lost a music legend and role model,” the spokesperson said.
