If you already have some salmon fillets and BBQ sauce on hand, you can start cooking right away! But here’s what I use to make this amazing dish:

  • Salmon fillets: I used all 6 oz salmon fillets so they would cook at the same rate. You may need to adjust the cooking time by a minute or two if you’re using a different size fillet.
  • BBQ Sauce: It’s great if you have some leftover BBQ sauce on hand! Use it on this delicious salmon! If not, feel free to pick up a bottle of your favorite sauce or make your own concoction from scratch. Homemade BBQ sauce is really a game changer and I love it because you can customize the flavors to your liking. Check out my full recipe here.

Can I use frozen salmon?

Yes! Frozen salmon is perfectly safe to put on the grill and does not need to be thawed. Especially fresh salmon is expensive, frozen salmon is a good choice. Keep in mind that you may need to add a few minutes to the cooking time.

Tips for Cooking Salmon

These are some of my favorite tips for ensuring your grilled salmon is perfect. If you’re anything like me, you’ll want to cook this delicious fish all summer long!

  • Skin side down: Be sure to cook the salmon first, skin side down. The skin acts as a natural barrier allowing the salmon to cook without burning.
  • Only one-minute characters: When you flip salmon, it’s already cooked. You only want to cook the meat side down for a minute for a little extra smoky flavor. Don’t let those fillets burn!
  • Do not overcook: Grilled salmon will continue to cook for a minute or two after you take it off the grill, so don’t overcook it! This rest time also allows for the absorption of all the delicious juices, resulting in a more tender salmon.

delicious side dishes

Once your grill is fired up, put it to good use and add some fresh veggies! I love roasted vegetables. Not only does it add the smokiness we all love, it enhances their amazing natural flavors. All of these recipes are perfect with grilled salmon, you have to give them a try!

How long does grilled salmon last?

With proper storage, you can enjoy grilled salmon days after making it. Here’s how to keep it fresh:

  • in the refrigerator: Store salmon fillets in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • To reheat: I like to heat my grilled salmon in the oven at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes. This will help keep the outside crispy but the inside tender and crispy!
