On Friday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers made an early statement against the New York Yankees.
In the opener of a three-game weekend series, the Dodgers roughed up Luis Severino for seven runs over four innings and defeated the Yankees by a final score of 8-4.
Leading the way was star right fielder Mookie Betts, who set the tone against the Yankees in the series opener.
Betts picked up four hits, hit multiple home runs, one of which was a leadoff homer, had a multi-hit inning, and stole a base.
In doing so, Betts became the first player in the modern MLB era to have accomplished all these feats in the same game.

Betts has accomplished a lot during his career.
He owns an MVP Award, six Gold Gloves, five Silver Slugger Awards, a batting title, a Defensive Player of the Year Award, and two World Series rings.
He also has six All-Star selections to his name.
But on Friday, he made some very important MLB history with his huge game over the Yankees.
The former MVP and two-time World Series champion is hitting .266 on the season with a .922 OPS.
He also is now up to 15 home runs and 36 RBI while reaching base at a .371 clip and slugging .551.
The 30-year-old Nashville native is certainly no stranger to tormenting the Yankees after he spent the first six seasons of his career with the Boston Red Sox, New York’s most hated rivals.
He put his skills to good use again on Friday night as the Dodgers pulled off a statement win over the Yanks.
