this Pittsburgh Pirates Now that May is behind, they seem to be revisiting their April game, which is a good thing for them

If they can beat the visitors, they can start particularly strong in June st louis cardinals series sweeps on sunday

Pittsburgh erased a five-game winning streak with a 7-5 score on Friday before going 4-3 on Saturday. These are the types of games pirate won in the heat of april

May has been as exciting for Pittsburgh as April — though things are starting to get back on track with the last two wins in May, giving the pirate Going into Sunday’s four-game winning streak

“We’re just going back to who we are, playing hard baseball,” Pittsburgh outfielder Conna Joe told AT&T Sportsnet after his two-game winning streak on Saturday.

“And then what a job done in the bullpen, to cover that many innings. That’s Buccaneer baseball.”

joe was referring to the fact pirate Eight pitchers were used in Saturday’s victory as starter Luis Ortiz didn’t return after being delayed an hour by rain between the second and third innings

That could affect the Pittsburgh Rescuers who are available Sunday, especially since it’s a morning Peacock game.

But hey, it’s June and the outlook has a new look.

“Winning four in a row is great. Full of energy,” Joe said. “It’s nice to win a series, but it’s also nice to have a sweep.”

St. Louis has an almost opposite story, starting surprisingly slow in April and then showing signs in May of a team that seemed to be a perennial contender in the middle of the National League.

But it seems somewhat backwards, because cardinal lost four of five

In the final game of the series, St. Louis right-hander Miles Mikolas (4-1, 3.75 ERA) is scheduled to face Pittsburgh left-hander Rich Hill (4-5, 4.76).

Mikolas sees himself as cardinal‘stopper, something they can use on Sunday

He has won four straight decisions and brought a team-best 16 scoreless innings — dating back to May 20 — in Sunday’s game.

He hit a career-high 10 strikeouts in eight scoreless innings in a 2-1 win over Kansas City on Tuesday as St. Louis snapped a two-game losing streak.

“I think being in front of the team when they need it is one of the best feelings in sports,” Mikolas said. “That’s what I’m proud of, that’s what I’m doing here – winning games. Yeah, I want my stat line to look good, but at the end of the day, if I start playing and we end up winning, I’m pretty happy.”

Not only has he gone 4-0 with a 2.11 ERA in his last nine games, but St. Louis has won his last five, seven of his last nine.

Michaelas has faced Pittsburgh more times than any other team. He is 5-5 with a 3.06 ERA in 20 starts, starting 17 of them.

After a three-game winning streak, Hill has lost two straight starts, most recently on Monday when he allowed six runs and nine hits in six innings against San Francisco.

Hill is 4-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 career games, starting nine of them against cardinal. He hasn’t faced them since 2021
