Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers is eligible for an awfully big contract extension this summer.
He could be earning a deal that is close to three years and nearly $170 million from the Lakers.
But one NBA analyst doesn’t think that should happen.
When asked if the Lakers should offer Davis an extension, Kendrick Perkins had a definitive answer.
“No, they shouldn’t. I wouldn’t,” Perkins said Monday morning.
He added, “We haven’t seen a healthy Anthony Davis in, what, three or four years? You have to start asking yourself if you’re the front office…Can you trust AD and hand him the keys to the car?”

“Health matters” is what Perkins said when talking about Davis remaining in LA.
He mentioned that one of the biggest questions of the postseason was if Davis could string together a few great games back-to-back.
It is true that this was a question that Lakers fans were struggling with throughout the playoffs.
It is also true that Davis is injured more than he – and the team – would like.
But there is still little doubt that the Lakers will want to invest in Davis for the next few years, even with the drawbacks that come with him.
When Davis first came to the Lakers from the New Orleans Pelicans, fans were hoping he would be able to take control of the team and end up leading it into the future.
Many argue he hasn’t quite risen to that task, even though he has been sensational at times.
That is partly due to Davis’ abilities and personality but also due to the fact that he is playing alongside the generational talent that is LeBron James.
It’s hard to lead a team when you are back-to-back with one of the greatest to ever play the game.
