Papa Roach’s “Last Resort” Lyrics Top Merriam-Webster Dictionary Search

Merriam-Webster is a nearly 200-year-old company, so when the famous dictionary and encyclopedia publisher tweets, we take its word for it. If Merriam-Webster tells us that the single words in the opening line of Papa Roach’s new metal song “Last Resort” make up the “top query right now,” we have no reason to doubt it.

Monday (June 12), Merriam-Webster tweets (see below), “We’re not even mad; it’s awesome,” is accompanied by a graph showing the top 10 words searched on the company’s dictionary site. The words are, in order: “cut”, “mine”, “life”, “into”, “piece”, “this”, “is”, “mine”, “finally”, “resort”.

It’s not April 1st, so we know it’s not an April Fool’s prank, but a savvy person questioned why “mine” was listed twice. Merriam-Webster tactfully responded: “We noticed that too. Must be both an adjective and an abbreviation?”

Well, maybe we do have reason to doubt its authenticity now, but the fact that Merriam-Webster took the time to quote Papa Roach lyrics is pretty funny, if not true.In case you’re wondering if this was a hack, the same post appears on the company’s instagram and Facebook Page.

Serious consequences The company has been contacted about the situation and we will let you know as soon as we hear back.

Meanwhile, fans can watch Papa Roach perform “Last Resort” with Shinedown and Spiritbox on their upcoming fall US tour.Tickets are available here.
