Palehound shared a new look for their upcoming album “Independence Day,” Eyes on the bat. Check it out below.

“Independence Day” is a breakup song that has been around for years. Over strumming acoustic guitar and thumping bass, El Campner recounts in painstaking detail the night their long-term relationship ended: “The next-door neighbor was weeping in rage / Our cat with its tail between its legs Running under the bed.” Despite their grief, they refused to pretend the relationship didn’t happen. “Even if I could, looking back would kill me,” they sing. “No, I don’t want to see another way.”

Kempner explained the single in a statement. “The end of a relationship that spanned most of my 20s illuminated a fork in the road that I dreaded,” they said. “After we broke up, I found myself wondering if we had chosen differently. , or what another life would be like, what I would be, even if circumstances or tragedy chose for us.”
