Taylor Swift Performs “Dear John” Live for First Time in 11 Years


before the July 7 launch Talk Now (Taylor Version)Taylor Swift performed her album track “Dear John” live for the first time in 11 years at “The Eras Tour” in Minneapolis on Saturday night.

In her preface to the show — one of two surprise songs of the night — Swift said: “I didn’t put out this album so you guys could defend me on the Internet against people who you think I’m about Whoever wrote a song 14 million years ago…extend your kindness to the internet please don’t follow anyone because you think I wrote a song about them a billion years ago.”

There has long been speculation that “Dear John” is about John Mayer, who briefly dated Swift in 2009. The song was released the following year on Swift’s album, speak Now.

In a 2012 interview rolling stonesMayer said he was “really humiliated” by the song. He added: “I never got an email. I never got a phone call. I was so caught off guard, it was humiliating when I was already well dressed. I mean, if you’re at your lowest How do you feel when someone kicks you even lower?” As far as Swift is concerned, Mayer thinks “Dear John” is about him, which is “presumptuous.”

Even so, Mayer still found herself receiving negative comments from Swift fans.after republishing Red Mayer, November 2021 release An example of the death threats he received. “I have received a lot of messages like this in the past few days.
