More than a year after their release, Black Star presents their long-awaited comeback album, no fear of timeavailable outside of the Luminary podcast network.
Originally released as a Luminary exclusive in May 2022, no fear of time It’s the first full-length feature film by the duo of Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) in 24 years. It was made entirely by their frequent collaborator Madlib.

Black Star has been teasing their second album for years; back in 2019, Kweli even said the record was done.Last year, the pair launched their podcast midnight miracle With their good friend Dave Chappelle.As the podcast host discusses, an episode titled “Bugs Bunny Mathematicx” plays the role of “introducing the album’s audio-liner notes.” no fear of time deeper.
“About three or four years ago, I visited Yassin in Europe and we started discussing the songs on the album, so I sent an engineer out to see what it would be,” Querrey said in a statement. “When I realized that this conversation was starting to organically become a creative conversation, I started making sure the engineer was always there. We were listening to Madlib beats in a hotel one day and he was like ‘play the Madlib tape again’ . ’ I was playing the beat and he started rhyming to the beat. That’s how we made our first song.”
Kweli continues: “It’s very similar to how we did the first album. But the first album didn’t move the studio. The whole album, we didn’t set foot in a studio. It was all in hotel rooms and Dave Backstage at a Chappelle show.”
“What you’ll continue to get from us are expressions of sincerity,” Bay added. “That’s who we really are, how we really respond, and what really matters to us.”
Back in 2011, Black Star dropped the single “Fix Up,” which was supposed to be made for an Aretha Franklin-inspired mixtape, but the pair eventually dropped it. They also later shared a “you already know” of the project.
