OceanGate suspends all exploration and commercial operations after Titan implosion

OceanGate said it would suspend all exploration and commercial operations weeks after its closure. Submersible implodes near Titanic wreck Killed all five people on board.

The company announced the news Thursday with a brief message at the top of its website. “OceanGate has suspended all exploration and commercial operations,” it wrote.

This is the third trip to the ruins by OceanGate submersibles, at a cost of $250,000 per passenger.

The wreck of the Titanic was found on the sea floor near the bow of the Titanic. A remotely operated vehicle was sent down to about 12,500 feet to retrieve the wreck.

Fragments of the Titan were transported to a Canadian ship, the Arctic Horizon. It’s unclear which parts were found; one particularly large part can be seen with several thick wires attached to it.

On June 18, the dive started from the Canadian scientific research ship “Polar Prince”, but after 1 hour and 45 minutes, the “Polar Prince” lost contact with Titan. It sparked a massive search and captured the attention of the world. Led by the U.S. Coast Guard, many countries sent resources to frantically search for the submarine.

Initially, there were concerns that the Titan would run out of air before rescuers could arrive, but officials believe the submarine suffered “catastrophic implosionThe crew member died immediately. The cause is still under investigation.
