On Friday night, Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs had his first humbling moment in the NBA.
In the middle of the much-watched game between the Spurs and Charlotte Hornets, Wembanyama was dunked on by Kai Jones.
The moment was replayed again and again in slow motion across TV and social media.
ESPN commentator Doris Burke referred to it as Wembanyama’s “welcome to the NBA” moment.

It was definitely a play that left fans and commentators speechless.
But Twitter users were very talkative and quick to let their thoughts be known.
Some people used the dunk as a chance to make a joke about Britney Spears and the drama she and Wembanyama were involved with days before.
Did it for Britney.

Others said this was evidence that Wembanyama isn’t nearly as great as analysts have promised.
That dude is going to be a bust

Meanwhile, some Twitter users were saying that Wembanyama should be prepared for plenty of moments like this.
They claim that he will have a big target on his back because of how much hype revolves around him.
He will be a target by many players since he is tall and hyped by the media

Some fans stated that this is proof that Wembanyama needs to spend more time in the gym, getting bigger and stronger and ready for the regular season.
Wemby is going to be good, but he needs to add some muscle, and meat to his frame.

Jones’ dunk was certainly remarkable and should have been celebrated no matter who was involved.
But the fact that he dunked on the most talked-about rookie player in decades makes the play even more special.
In the months ahead, you can expect to see more tweets like this any time that Wembanyama is outplayed or embarrassed on the court.
He might be the biggest rookie in years but he will still have to deal with these moments.
