Mike Love Afraid to Play “Surfer Girl” Since It’s “Gender Specific”

Never one to pass up a chance to “have freedom,” the Beach Boys’ Mike Love made a clumsy attempt at a recent concert to poke fun at conservatives’ resistance to Bud Light (via Reddit). Before singing “Surfer Girl,” the fervent Trump supporter sarcastically told the audience he had concerns about writing the song because it was “gender-specific.”

“I was a little worried about the song … it was gender-specific,” Love said. “I hope there’s no Budweiser or FBI guys here. Sorry, I apologize in advance for anything I might say or do. It’s a family tradition. It’s for all the ladies.” Watch below Fan lens.

If you don’t know, Bud Light Sponsor an Instagram post Back in April, influencer Dylan Mulvaney popped open a bottle of their beer while dressed as breakfast at tiffany’s Protagonist Holly Golightly. Since Mulvaney happens to be transgender, the social media post was otherwise innocuous. drew the ire of some conservatives. Kid Rock did shoot a few cases of beer, and country singer Travis Tritt Take Anheuser-Busch Products From His Touring Riders And claimed he knew of “many other artists” who were doing the same.

So, that’s where the Budweiser part of Love’s comment comes from, but he seems to be (deliberately?) confusing trans people with non-binary genders. Regardless, it’s safe to say former Beach Boys members Brian Wilson and Al Jardin disagree with his stance.

Back in 2020, they denounced Love Zombies’ charity show for Trump, which came months after the Beach Boys’ trophy hunting convention featuring Donald Trump Jr. .
