apple The public preview of iOS 17, a major iPhone update, has just been released, and it includes several major changes, including better autocorrect, landscape docking mode, and offline apps. It gives us a taste of what we can expect when Apple unveils the final version of the new iPhone this fall.

In previous years, installing the public beta required registering your email address on Apple’s website and was a tricky process involving installing a certificate.

This year, the process has been greatly simplified. How to do:

  • Make sure your phone can install iOS 17, which you might be able to install if you purchased your phone after 2018 or have an iPhone XS or newer. This is a the list.
  • Make sure you are updated to the latest public version of iOS (greater than 16.4).
  • Then go to Settings > General > Software Update. The option to select the iOS 17 public beta will be in the drop-down menu.

Apple’s iOS public beta has most of the features that will be included in the final release, but it’s not ready for everyone. Apple allows non-software developers to install public beta versions to gather information about bugs so they can be ironed out before iOS’s official release in the fall.

It’s fun for users who want to experience the future months in advance. But keep in mind that this software can be full of bugs and unstable. Apple encourages anyone who wants to install it to make sure the data on the device is backed up.
