All-Star Game viewership extends series of record declines

Ratings for the Major League All-Star Game hit an all-time low for the second straight year and the fifth time in the past seven years that the game has hit an all-time low, according to a report released Wednesday.

Tuesday’s game averaged a 3.9 rating on FOX with 7.01 million viewers (7.09 million when including all platforms), according to Sports Media Watch. The previous low ratings were 4.2, and an average of 7.51 million viewers will watch “ASG” in 2022.

For comparison purposes, the 2014 All-Star Game had an average rating of 7.0 and 11.34 million viewers. Then, in 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2022, the ratings of the All-Star Game hit a series of new lows. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition was not held in 2020. -19 pandemic.

The report pointed out that compared with other All-Star events, the Midsummer Classic still has the largest audience. The NFL’s Pro Bowl game drew 6.28 million viewers, Monday night’s home run derby drew 6.11 million viewers and the NBA All-Star Game in February drew 4.59 million viewers.

The National League snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the American League in Seattle on Tuesday night.
