Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said he was rushed to hospital on Saturday but was “in good condition” while undergoing a medical evaluation.

He is being treated at Israel’s Sheba Hospital near the coastal city of Tel Aviv, the Israeli leader’s office said, without giving further details.

Israel’s main news website Wala quoted an unnamed official close to Netanyahu as saying that Netanyahu fainted at home but was fully conscious at the hospital. Another news site, Ha’aretz, quoted hospital officials as saying Netanyahu was conscious and able to walk on his own. Those reports could not be immediately confirmed.

Netanyahu, 73, is Israel’s longest-serving leader. He served multiple terms spanning more than 15 years. His current far-right government, made up of religious and ultra-nationalist parties, came to power in December.

Netanyahu is said to be in good general health, although last October he was briefly hospitalized after feeling unwell during Yom Kippur prayers, a day on which devout Jews fast.

Israel is currently in the midst of a heatwave, with temperatures in the mid-thirties Celsius (90s Fahrenheit).

This is breaking news. Please check for updates.
