Last year, no running back in the NFL had a better season than Josh Jacobs of the Las Vegas Raiders, and it couldn’t have come at a better time for him after the team declined his fifth-year option.
Jacobs more than lived up to the challenge of playing with an uncertain future in Las Vegas, as he dominated the competition on a weekly basis paving his way to having a career year.
The up-and-coming back finished the season with career-high numbers across the board, ending with 2,053 yards from scrimmage with 12 touchdowns.
Jacobs proved his worth and was hoping to get paid for what he accomplished on the field, but the Raiders had other ideas by placing a franchise tag on him, which would pay him a little over $10 million next season.
Although the two sides have been discussing a new contract, the talks haven’t gone well, and Raiders reporter Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal doesn’t see the team paying Jacobs what he wants.

Along with Jacobs, New York Giants star Saquon Barkley is in a similar situation, with the team wanting him to sign a franchise tag and make $10 million next season rather than work on a long-term deal, even if that deal is for two years.
Things are getting ugly in the NFL when it comes to star players at the running back position that want to be paid and valued, as teams don’t seem to be budging in contract talks and seem content with holdouts and those players potentially leaving the team.
