Pulp Debut Unreleased Song “Hymn of the North”: Watch

Pulp stopped by their hometown of Sheffield at the weekend for two shows of their reunion tour. To make the second night even more special, they closed the show with an unreleased song, “Song of the North.”

“I can assure you that no one has ever heard this song except us on this stage,” frontman Jarvis Coker told the audience as he introduced the show. “Actually that’s a lie. It’s a song – a version of it is in a play called Simon Stephens. It’s called ‘Song of the North’. We’re in the North, so we think You should listen first, okay.”

Kirk went on to share that the band had “some lively discussions” about whether or not the song should be played live. “A lot of things could go wrong – first of all, I’m playing the piano,” he said. “But (keyboard player) Candida (Doyle) will help correct the fingers.”

Watch the fan-shot video below of Pulp’s debut of the ballad at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield on 15 July.

During the concert, Pulp also played a selection of fan-favorite songs and deep cuts. They were also joined by former member Richard Hawley, who was the opening act, singing “Sunrise” and their iconic song “Common People”. See the full playlist below.

Pulp will play at the Latitude Festival in Suffolk this weekend, ahead of two London shows. In November of this year, they will appear at the Corona Capital 2023 installment in Mexico City.grab your tickets here.
