Even though the New York Mets have won “just” two World Series titles throughout their MLB existence, they have a rich history filled with incredibly talented players that built a strong bond with fans.
One of them is, without a doubt, third baseman David Wright.
Now happily retired, Wright used to be one of the most talented hitters in the league back in the 2000s and 2010s.

Unfortunately, Wright’s career was also marred by injuries.
From 2015 to 2018, a series of physical issues limited him to 77 games over that four-season span, and then he retired.
Still, let’s focus on the impact he had on the field for the Mets.
In that 2004 campaign he made his MLB debut, Wright hit .293/.332/.525 with 14 home runs in 69 games.
He did it as a 21-year-old future star with plenty of potential for more, as the league was about to discover.
He was part of the team that suffered a heartbreaking loss in the NL Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006, and the one that reached the World Series in 2015.
Wright probably deserved to win the 2007 NL MVP award, and he took home two Gold Glove awards, two Silver Slugger awards, and had seven All-Star berths.
He retired with a .296/.376/.491 line, 242 home runs, and 196 stolen bases.
He was one of the most competent and complete hitters of his time, and Mets fans love him.
He is “The Captain” for them, and his impact on the franchise was huge when he was active.
