Nick Cave Confirms that New Bad Seeds Album is Almost Finished

Nick Cave has confirmed he’s in the studio working on a new album with Bad Seeds.

The musician shared the news on social media latest post On his website, red hand file. “I wanted to let everyone know that I am now back in the studio finishing the new Bad Seeds record,” he wrote, before explaining that he would be taking “a few weeks” off from site management duties to focus on record production. The new album will mark the Bad Seeds’ first since its 2019 release ghost.

Cave first confirmed the existence of the new project in January, reply In response to a question about his plans for 2023, he said, “My plan for this year is to set a new record with Bad Seeds. That’s both good news and bad news. Good news, who doesn’t want a new record from Bad Seeds? Bad news, because I have to write the damn thing.”

In the same post, Cave went on to describe the dilemma he got into while working on the album. “Every record is the same, and I feel that lack of familiarity, like I’m a big, dumb blank thing in a suit,” he wrote. “I’m cranky and Suzie (Kev, his wife) has been on the run for a week now. Anything resembling a creative urge is buried deep in some mossy, froggy hole, and I hope it’s asleep, not dead. I have to call it out, wake it from its slumber. It becomes a nasty, punishing, baggy thing. An annoying singing sound starts in my head that actually rhymes, like madness.”

In the seven months since the announcement was first made, Cave has kept himself busy. Later in January, he explained to another fan that he had changed after the death of his first son, losing the anger that had long been embodied in his music. That same month, he lamented the “grotesque mockery” of an AI-generated Nick Cave song. In May, he defended his attendance at the coronation of Charles III, and earlier this month he collaborated with the Afghan Miracle Love Children’s band on a new single based on a poem he wrote about his wife.

All of this comes ahead of Cave’s upcoming North American tour, in which he will perform some rare solo tracks with Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood.See a full list of dates and get tickets here.
