Being a former NBA player doesn’t automatically make you a fan of the NBA.

Several former players openly admit they don’t watch a lot of basketball, and even some active players claim they don’t enjoy watching other teams in their free time, either because they want to get their minds away from hoops or because they’re jealous of not playing in the playoffs or the NBA Finals.

Others simply don’t like the way the game is played nowadays.

That seems to be the case with Tracy McGrady, who recently told Howard Beck of GQ (Via ClutchPoints) that he would rather watch college basketball over the NBA, as today’s game consists mostly of jacking up shots from beyond the arc and taking bad shots overall.

To each his own, and it is a fact that modern-day basketball is more perimeter-oriented.

Then again, it’s not like college basketball is any better, as there’s a lot of stagnant offense, poor spacing, and an evident lack of talent and athleticism.

College basketball is fun to watch for many reasons, but it’s not like it’s a prime example of fundamentals.

Even so, T-Mac most definitely knows way more about hoops than the average person, and he’s entitled to have his very own preferences and opinions.

Moreover, McGrady has also admitted that he actually liked baseball way more than basketball, and he dreamed of being an MLB player growing up, so maybe he’s just busy watching a different sport, which is perfectly fine.
