SRINAGAR: After getting killed in the Hyderpora ‘encounter’ in November 2021, Aamir Magray’s grave was visited by his father for the first time. He is reported to have offered a Fateh on his son’s grave after a protracted legal battle that, however, did not lead him to take his mortal remains home.

Aamir was a resident of Ramban’s Sangaldan belt and his family put a huge legal battle for reclaiming his dead body that was buried in a graveyard down north.

“Finally Mohd Latief Magray performed Fatha-e-Kwani at the grave of his son Aamir Magray who was “killed” in Pulwama, Kashmir encounter in 2021,” advocate Deepika Pushkar Nath wrote on Twitter. “Pertinently, Mohd Latief Magray has also received compensation of Rs.5 lac from UT of jandk. Initially, on his approaching JK High Court, Court directed for exhumation of body of his son with compensation of Rs 5 lac.”.

Later, Nath added the “order of single bench was later modified to rituals and compensation only. Magray also approached Hon’ble Supreme Court of India by way of filing SLPs and a contempt petition after which he was granted compensation of Rs. 5 lac. and permission to perform rituals.” Deepika pleaded Aamir’s case initially.

Magray was one of the four people killed in Hyderpora Srinagar on November 15, 2021. Police had claimed the slain were militants and buried them in Kupwara. After the families of the two businessmen came out on the roads and disputed the police claim, the government exhumed the bodies Altaf Ahmad Bhat and Dr Mudasir Gul and handed those over to their families. In the case of the two others, however, the bodies were not returned that triggered a legal battle.

Reports appearing in the media suggest that on Sunday, Latief accompanied his wife, three sons, daughter and four other relatives for Fatiha Khawani at his son’s grave Wadder Payeen village of Handwara. Latife has been a state bravery award winner who killed a militant with stones at the peak of militancy.

After a protracted legal battle, the Magray family of Ramban district visited the grave of their slain son Amir Magray in north Kashmir’s Kupwara and offered special prayers.
