Being the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft comes with high expectations.

The Carolina Panthers traded significant capital to get the No. 1 pick, showing their confidence level in Bryce Young.

Young has received glowing reviews throughout training camp, appearing poised to take over as the Panthers’ starter.

Recently, the Panthers had a joint practice with the New York Jets, where Young was able to spend time with Aaron Rodgers.

Bobby Kownack of the NFL’s website wrote about many of Rodgers’ statements to Young.

One such statement was, “Be gentle with yourself, it’s a long journey.”

Rodgers’ words likely provided comfort to Young, who is experiencing a myriad of emotions.

Taking over as an NFL starter is hard work, no matter how well your prospect profile was coming in.

While Young may have his work cut out for him, and many barriers to overcome, Rodgers’ comments indicate that he should enjoy this journey.

Many believe Young will have instant success in the league, something that doesn’t always happen.

Take Josh Allen, for example.

Allen is now viewed as one of the AFC’s top quarterbacks.

However, after having issues with accuracy in his first few seasons, many considered Allen to be a bust.

Sometimes, players need to take time to learn their team’s system and adapt to what the NFL has to offer.

Having Rodgers as a mentor, even for a few days, could prove valuable to Young in his first season.

As Rodgers said about Young, “I think he’s got a great head on his shoulders, and he’ll be just fine.”
