Cardinals Insider Announces Update On Adam Wainwright

It’s safe to say that the 2023 season has gone off the rails for the St. Louis Cardinals.

The same can be said for veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright, who is playing out his final season in Major League Baseball.

The 41-year-old has not won a game since June 17 and has watched his ERA skyrocket to 8.78 after a few bad starts to begin August.

This led many to speculate that his time in the St. Louis rotation could be limited for the rest of the season.

On Sunday, manager Oli Marmol stopped by KMOX, a local St. Louis radio station, and revealed the plan for the two-time World Series champion.

Benjamin Hochman of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch tweeted the update as well.

For now, it appears that the Cardinals are planning to let Wainwright stay in the rotation and figure things out.

His next start will come on Thursday against the New York Mets at Busch Stadium.

However, the Cardinals may have him on a short leash for his upcoming start, given his recent struggles.

He started for the Cardinals on Friday night against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium, but allowed eight runs and didn’t even make it through the second inning.

Left-hander Zack Thompson came in and gave the Cardinals four innings of relief, allowing just one run, so the team could potentially have him ready to go if anything goes wrong.

He may could be added into the rotation if Wainwright struggles again in his next start.
