Incoming second-year man Brock Purdy is set to be the San Francisco 49ers‘ starting quarterback again as they look to win their first Super Bowl since the 1994 season.

He played very well late last season after taking over the starting spot in the wake of injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, yet some aren’t fully sold on him as the long-term solution under center.

Still, Purdy has done well so far in training camp, and The Athletic’s David Lombardi pointed out that Purdy has done especially well in the red zone during scrimmages.

Purdy was the last player chosen in the 2022 draft, and as “Mr. Irrevelent,” no one expected him to do anything when last season began.

But in his stint as San Francisco’s QB1, his numbers were almost as stellar as those of any elite QB1 in the NFL, and he showed the type of poise that is rare for any rookie, let alone one who was the final pick in the draft.

He has the luxury of an offensive system set up by head coach Kyle Shanahan that makes it easier for a quarterback to succeed and put up decent numbers.

Making things even easier on Purdy is having playmakers such as wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, dual-threat running back Christian McCaffrey, and tight end George Kittle.

In addition, the 49ers had the league’s best defense last season, and with the addition of standout defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, it could be even better this fall and winter.
