Since the calendar shifted from July to August, one particular New York Mets star is hitting quite well.

Pete Alonso has kicked things into gear since the turn of the month and is helping the Mets on the offensive side.

Since August began, Alonso owns a batting average of .257 with six home runs, 14 RBI, and a 1.235 OPS.

And despite being well out of contention, the Mets have played slightly better baseball.

On Twitter, SNY, the TV home of the Mets, posted a graphic featuring Alonso’s stats since the start of August, which shows how hot the lone Mets All-Star has been over the past month.

Alonso hasn’t had his best season this year in terms of batting average, as he is hitting just .223.

However, the power numbers have been there.

On Thursday, he took Adam Wainwright deep for his 37th home run of the year.

He also has already driven in 91 runs and has an OPS of .851.

Alonso burst onto the scene in 2019 and broke Aaron Judge’s rookie home run record.

The veteran slugger has been a perennial MVP candidate ever since.

But this month especially, Alonso has been on an absolute tear for the Mets.

For his career, Alonso owns a WAR of 16.9 and a 2.8 mark this season.

Though his average is down slightly for the year, he has posted a respectable mark in August which has helped the Mets play a little bit better in recent weeks.

Alonso is only six homers behind Atlanta Braves slugger Matt Olson for the MLB lead.
