Analyst Criticizes 49ers For Changing Their Mind On Trey Lance

The San Francisco 49ers knew what they were getting into at the start of this offseason.

That was a quarterback battle between Brock Purdy, Trey Lance, and Sam Darnold.

Purdy went from seventh-round pick to starter last season for the 49ers.

He took the job and has seemingly earned his way into becoming the franchise quarterback of the 49ers.

This was a crazy turn of events after Lance was seen as the franchise quarterback entering last season.

NFL analyst Jason McCourty was surprised to see the 49ers give up on Lance so soon.

He talked on “Good Morning Football” about how the 49ers were “all-in” on Lance last season and now are ready to move on from him.

Lance was not even given the backup quarterback role as that went to Sam Darnold.

So Lance went from the unquestioned starter last season to a third-string quarterback.

It seems like his time as a member of the 49ers is coming to an end.

In two NFL seasons, Lance has started four games.

That is not much of a sample size to decide on whether Lance can be an NFL starter or not.

The 49ers are much more comfortable with Purdy being their long-term starter.

It would be a surprise for Lance to remain a 49er at the start of this season.

Naming him the third-string quarterback was essentially the end of his tenure in San Francisco.

Hopefully, his next team will do what is necessary to give him the time to develop into an NFL starter.
