Major League Baseball has a long history of many legendary players.

You can go back to the days of Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, and so on.

Each decade there seems to be a group of players that many young kids would look up to.

Many players in MLB today look up to the guys who played in the early 2000s.

One player who consistently stands out amongst the rest is Derek Jeter.

The legendary Yankees shortstop was one of the most popular players in baseball for his entire career.

Not only was he a great player in his own right, but he played shortstop for the most popular team in the league.

Houston Astros utilityman Mauricio Dubon was growing up in Honduras during the time Jeter played for the Yankees.

According to FOX Sports: MLB, Dubon credits Jeter for being the reason he loves baseball.

Jeter was a role model for a lot of young players for the way he handled himself on and off the field.

He was given the title of Yankees captain, which is an honor only bestowed to the best leaders.

Jeter was a key cog in the Yankees’ success from 1995-2014.

He made 14 All-Star teams, won five World Championships, and was named World Series MVP one time.

Jeter was even given the nickname “Mr. November” for his success during the World Series.

There may have been players that were better than Jeter during his years on the diamond.

But, none of them influenced the younger generation quite like the Yankees shortstop.
