Following an erratic start to the season, the Los Angeles Rams released veteran kicker Brett Maher this week.

Maher missed two field goals and an extra point in their seven-point home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, costing them seven points.

Now, they’re looking forward to finding a suitable replacement, with Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reporting that they’re working out a group of kickers that includes former Green Bay Packers star Mason Crosby.

The 39-year-old kicker spent 16 seasons at Lambeau Field from 2007 through 2022.

He’s considered to be the greatest kicker in franchise history, being their all-time leader in made field goals (395), extra points made (733), and all-time leading scorer (1,918).

Those numbers are also the most in the league since he made his debut.

The Packers didn’t offer him another contract after he became a free agent, replacing him with rookie sixth-round pick Anders Carlson, who has been perfect in both field goals (8-for-8) and extra-point attempts (12-for-12) thus far this season.

The Rams are slated for a date with the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8, and that team definitely brings back some cherished memories for the former Packers kicker.

Crosby knocked down a game-winning field goal from 51 yards away to beat the 13-3 Cowboys in the 2016 NFC Divisional Round, and he could now get to see a familiar face in Mike McCarthy, who coached him in Wisconsin.

The Rams are looking to make an unlikely playoff push and they cannot afford to let small details derail their campaign, so they’re doing well by pursuing a well-known veteran.
