Analyst Makes Alarming Statement About Commanders Defense

The Washington Commanders were hoping to return to contention this year.

They felt confident with Sam Howell leading the offense that they could score with most teams in the league.

Also, their defense was expected to be stout.

Yet, that side of the ball has been a disaster this year.

The Commanders have struggled to stop anyone, and their biggest issues are with the secondary.

According to Neil Greenberg via JP Finlay: “Before the trades, they were an average defense with above average talent… The secondary is a horror show.”

The Commanders used their first-round pick in the most recent draft on cornerback Emmanuel Forbes.

Forbes was known for his elite ball skills, but his size was a concern.

His size has made life easy for bigger, more physical wide receivers.

They have had their way with Forbes and the rest of the Commanders secondary.

Washington was known for having a strong defensive line, but even that unit has underwhelmed.

The team traded star pass rushers Chase Young and Montez Sweat before the trade deadline, all but throwing in the towel for this year.

Still, the Commanders have a record of 4-6 and have an outside shot at a playoff berth.

But, they will need their defense to play significantly better.

If the Commanders cannot turn things around, it would not be a surprise to see them make significant changes in the offseason.

It could start with head coach Ron Rivera, who is on the hot seat.

Rivera is a defensive-minded coach, but his defense has failed him this year.
