Eagles Are Waiving Former First-Round Pick

The Philadelphia Eagles must be thrilled with where they are in the standings this year.

Through 10 games they have a record of 9-1 and sit atop the NFL.

But their current situation has not stopped the front office from making roster moves.

In a surprising move, the Eagles released a veteran edge rusher on Friday.

According to Adam Schefter, the Eagles waived DE Derek Barnett.

The Eagles have a ton of depth on their defensive line and Barnett was not playing a big role this season.

Barnett played in eight games and only recorded three combined tackles.

Despite being a first-round pick in 2017, the Eagles have phased Barnett out of the rotation.

One thing about Eagles GM Howie Roseman is that he is always looking to improve the team.

At the trade deadline, they acquired safety Kevin Byard to patch up a weak spot on their defense.

Now it appears like the Eagles are interested in bringing in another linebacker.

Philadelphia recently put starter Nakobe Dean on injured reserve and they are looking for a replacement.

It appears that recently released linebacker Shaquille Leonard from the Indianapolis Colts may be in play.

Leonard has gotten interest from plenty of teams and the Eagles may be the best fit.

The release of Barnett was curious timing as the Eagles may be looking to free up a roster spot.

Even though the trade deadline has passed there are still ways for teams to improve their roster.
