Few players in the NBA are bona fide superstars before they step foot on the hardwood in this league, but that was the case with No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama, who made an impression on the professional level overseas before becoming the new face of the San Antonio Spurs franchise.

Even though there’s been a lot of hype surrounding Wembanyama’s NBA arrival, the French superstar hasn’t been able to turn things around immediately, with San Antonio sporting a record of 3-14 thus far during the 2023-24 NBA regular season.

However, as expected, Wembanyama has been putting up some impressive numbers, as he leads the team in scoring with 19.2 points per game to go along with 9.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.6 blocks and 1.3 steals per contest.

Despite the impressive stats for the rookie phenom, the wins haven’t followed, but former Spurs guard Patty Mills has faith in this fellow international import, as he shared his thoughts on the 19-year-old via Hector Ledesma of ClutchPoints.

As Mills said, he feels like the Spurs are in a good place with Wembanyama to grow and become one of the best teams in the league and that there may be more banners hanging in the rafters in San Antonio sooner rather than later.

At this point in time, it is clear that Wembanyama will need some more help around him in order for the team to take that next step, and it remains uncertain whether the Spurs front office will try to trade for that talent or continue to go through the NBA Draft.
