After eight games played for the Philadelphia 76ers, veteran newcomer Kelly Oubre Jr. looked like he had carved out an important role with the team and was quickly becoming the steal of the offseason for the franchise.

Unfortunately, after a reported hit-and-run incident, Oubre found himself in a hospital bed and unable to contribute to his new team, which was a sad setback for him and the team.

Although it was uncertain when Oubre would be able to return to the lineup for the 76ers, it seems as though he’s on pace to return sooner rather than later, which is obviously great news for Philadelphia.

According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, Oubre will be ready to go for practice on Monday, which should set him up to return to the floor against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.

Before going down with off-the-court incident, Oubre was averaging 16.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 50% from the floor and 37.8% from beyond the arc.

With Tyrese Maxey having a breakout season and Joel Embiid continuing to play at an MVP-caliber level, the 76ers will remain a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference after the return of Oubre, who provides some depth for the team moving forward.

Hopefully, for the sake of Oubre and the team, the 27-year-old can continue playing at a high level when he’s able to return to the basketball floor next week because the 76ers are looking more and more like a legitimate title contender in the East.
