The Los Angeles Chargers entered the 2023 season with high hopes.

After signing Justin Herbert to a contract extension, the Chargers believed they had what it took to dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs from the top spot in the AFC West.

This season has not exactly played out as the team expected, especially now that Herbert is out for the remainder of the year.

Their record has given some analysts doubt about Herbert and his ability to lead this team in the future.

However, analyst Greg Cosell gave Herbert a glowing endorsement in a recent appearance on the “Russ Tucker Podcast.”

Cosell said, “I guarantee if you talk to coaches, they would tell you Justin Herbert is a top-5 QB.”

Herbert’s standing in the public eye may have faded, but according to Cosell, he is still highly regarded by coaches around the league.

He is known for his powerful arm and the ability to make plays that wouldn’t otherwise be possible by others in the position.

Cosell believes in Herbert’s talent, hoping his situation improves in the future.

The Chargers might need to wait a year or two to develop as an overall unit, but in Cosell’s eyes, they don’t need to look elsewhere at quarterback.

Head coach Brandon Staley is on the hot seat, and if current trends continue, he might already have one foot out the door.

If he moves on in the offseason, this could be a chance for Herbert to develop in a new system, hoping to unlock his potential as an elite NFL quarterback fully.
