Nick Wright Foresees A Bad Future For AFC West Team

After being completely embarrassed on Thursday by the Las Vegas Raiders, 63-21, the Los Angeles Chargers made two swift, bold moves on Friday by firing head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco.

The firing of Staley is a move that had been brewing for a while, and Chargers fans had been begging for him to be axed dating back to last season.

Plenty are saying that the Chargers head coaching job will be an attractive one, but Nick Wright said on Fox Sports 1’s “First Things First” that it is not an attractive job at all.

Wright’s reasoning is that several of their key players are overpaid, the team lacks cap space, and they have failed to draft well in recent years.

Los Angeles, as Wright pointed out, has ample talent in wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, pass rushers Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack, offensive lineman Rashawn Slater, and safety Derwin James.

But Wright believes that because of the team’s cap situation, several of those men won’t be on its roster next season.

If that is true, they will have to draft very well for a few years to restock its pantry.

The one thing the Chargers have going for them is quarterback Justin Herbert, who is one of the best, or at least one of the most talented, in the NFL.

But they need an infusion of younger talent, and thus they will likely need a five-year plan, which will, of course, include hiring a high-quality coach this offseason.
