Commanders Announce QB Roster Move

The 2023 NFL season will go down as another lost season for the Washington Commanders who were eliminated from postseason contention a couple of weeks ago.

The Commanders have some talented pieces on their roster that are worth keeping around for the long-haul, but the new majority owner Josh Harris will likely clean house in the offseason.

There are already reports that he will part ways with head coach Ron Rivera, but the bigger question comes at quarterback as Sam Howell has been unimpressive in his first full year as the starter.

Howell’s been benched in two consecutive weeks in favor of Jacoby Brissett for his poor play and was slated to come off the bench for Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers.

However, Brissett was added to the injury report late in the week with a hamstring injury which opens up a path for Howell to start again.

With Brissett looking likely to miss the game, the Commanders elevated quarterback Jake Fromm to the active roster via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

“With Jacoby Brissett now questionable with a hamstring, Jake Fromm signed to the active roster,” Rapoport tweeted.

Fromm was drafted by the Buffalo Bills before spending a year with the New York Giants.

The former Georgia Bulldog signed onto Washington’s practice squad in 2022 and has been with the team since.

With Howell slated to start and Brissett looking like he will be inactive, the Commanders are bringing up Fromm as the gameday backup should anything happen to Howell.
